2004-2005 Division 33 Joe Whitby News:
Division 33 is in 2nd place in the Cal-Nev-Ha District and 34th place in KIF. Division 33 has donated $161,933.88 to help over 3.24 million children fight IDD worldwide. In Cal-Nev-Ha District, the Div. 33 clubs are ranked: Kern - 3rd; Westchester - 15th; Tehachapi - 22nd and Shafter - 42nd. Kern Club is 86th worldwide.

KERN MEMBER HONORED BY KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

KIWANIS STATUS OF WORLDWIDE SERVICE PROJECT - IDD
As of June 30, 2005, the Kiwanis family has contributed in cash $88,577,962 toward its new $78 million goal including $10,208,269 for the 113,000 Reasons Project above. Kiwanis International has awarded in grants to 102 nations and areas to support their programs for the virtual elimination of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). The use of the funds is monitored by UNICEF and its field staffs. Status Report
KERN KIWANIS ADDS 3 NEW HIXSONS
As of June 23, 2005, PSDLG John Stephenson, WSP/IDD Chair, has presented three new Hixsons to the following: 2004-05 Pres. Elect Russ Allred (56th Hixson); member Pres Burdette (57th Hixson) (Left) and member Shirley Ventura (58th Hixson). As of 6/30/05, Kern Kiwanis Club has donated $63,645.64, and these funds have protected from IDD a total of 1,271,913 kids.
KERN KIWANIS ADDS 3 NEW HIXSONS DIAMOND LEVEL
During March 2005, PSDLG John Stephenson, WSP/IDD Chair, presented 2003-04 Pres. Richard Wiens (53rd Hixson) (Left), 1998-99 Pres. Charles Neville (54th Hixson) and Charter Member & 1961 Pres. John Boydstun (55th Hixson) under KIF Matching Funds Program (Right), and on December 23, 2004, 2002-03 President Fuchsia Ward the 52nd Hixson (Diamond Level #1) for her work with East Bakersfield HS KIWIN'S Key Club as a needed school van driver (Right). As of 3/31/05, Kern Kiwanis Club has donated $63,549.6, and these funds have protected from IDD a total of 1,270,985 kids.
KIWANIS MAKES US FUND FOR UNICEF HOME PAGE
On September 24, 2002, the United States Fund for UNICEF features Kiwanis International and its Worldwide Service Project on the home page of its Web site at www.unicefusa.org. The presentation announces Kiwanis' "Challenge Grant," which encourages US Fund supporter to contribute to the global fight against iodine deficiency disorders. Other features include: a review of the Kiwanis-UNICEF partnership to virtually eliminate the world's leading preventable cause of mental disabilities; the global campaign, a photo gallery, special reports, and news coverage.
KIWANIS' WORLDWIDE SERVICE PROJECT GALA IN NEW ORLEANS
On June 20, 2002 at the Fairmont Hotel, the US Fund for UNICEF honored Kiwanis with a gala for its outstanding work to virtually eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD). To date, $51.4 million grants have been made to 95 nations. Each year over 9 million children are born without IDD. PSDLG John Stephenson was honored for his work with the Kern Kiwanis Club in being ranked 86th of 8400 clubs worldwide. As A Salute to Kiwanis, John and other attendees were given James Kiberd's art work showing a powerful image of an embracing family entitled "Merci UNICEF".
$75 million -- and counting -- against IDD
The Kiwanis family is poised to accomplish what is being described as "one of the most significant health-related accomplishments in history." Kiwanis has fulfilled-and is proceeding beyond-its promise to the world's children to raise $75 million for the virtual elimination of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the world's leading preventable cause of mental retardation. DIVISION 33 HONOR CLUB BANNERS
To date, only 9 clubs have received the "Honor Club Banner" in the Cal-Nev-Ha District. Three are in Div. 33: Kern Club (35 Hixsons and 3 Tablet of Honor), Westchester Club (21 Hixsons and 3 Tablet of Honor) and Tehachapi Club (15 Hixsons and 1 Tablet of Honor). On June 13, 2001, Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Phil Field with Kiwanis International Foundation District Chair PDLG Phil Niederauer presented Tehachapi Club President Al Gregg with the newest Honor Club Banner at their regular meeting.
