The Kiwanis Club of Kern, Bakersfield was chartered on May 27, 1948 by the Bakersfield Kiwanis Club. After 26 years, it was the second club in the city. Currently, the City of Bakersfield has a population of 376,315 and five Kiwanis Clubs which meet each day of the week except Monday & Tuesday.
Weekly luncheon meetings are held on Thursday from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Petroleum Club in the Stockdale Towers (12th floor), California Ave. and Mohawk St. On each 2nd Thursday, no Club meeting will be held at the Petroleum Club; however, an offsite meeting with our new Satellite 3-2-1 Club members will be held at 6:00 PM in the Bakersfield Community House, 2020 "R" St. & 21st St. (11/14/2013)
Kern Kiwanis Club is among the largest clubs in Division 33 with over 43 men and women members which includes our new Satellite 3-2-1 Club's 5 members.

On April 21, 2016, Ken Gibson's wife Betty was presented the 2015-16 Distinguished Service Award by CNH Dist. Gov. Cherice Gilliam and Lt. Gov. Greg Mudge since Ken died on 2/15/16. (Right)

1993-94 Div. 33 SDLG John Stephenson (Kern) is the 1st recipient of the "Stephenson Award of Excellence - Dedicated to all those who serve KIWIN'S with their hearts", and 2003-04 KIWIN'S Governor Vanessa Porter presented retiring District Administrator John with this award at the 28th District Convention in the Irvine Marriott Hotel on April 17, 2004. (Middle) At the 87th Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha District Convention in Reno, NV on August 24, 2007, John was presented the Bert Shoemaker Award by Chair Paul Formosa. On May 18, 2008, Vanessa Porter graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Biology plus a Specialization in Ecology and Conservation Biology. She received the coveted Scarlet Key Award which is the highest honor a student can receive. She wrote "The guidance you've given me has truly shaped who I am today." I hope others would have many "Kiwanis moments" that I have had with the Service Leadership Programs (SLP). On July 7, 2010, Vanessa completed 2 years in Honduras serving in the Peace Corps.
Kern's Honor Club Banner was awarded in April 1999 by KIF. To date, Kern Club has the following: 69 - Hixsons & Diamond Levels, 3 - Tablet of Honor, 2 - Heritage Society and 7 - Cal-Nev-Ha Dunlap. Award Names As of 9/30/10 in the WSP1/IDD program, the Kern Club has given $74,430 or helped 1,488,600 kids from IDD. Our Club ranks 86th of 8,327 Clubs worldwide, 3rd of 543 Clubs in Cal-Nev-Ha District and 1st in Div. 33. (Middle-Right)
In the past to provide funds for Community Service Account (approximately $12,000/year), Kern Kiwanis Club has used the following fund-raisers: 12 Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout, 23 Fireworks Stands and 8 Annual Kiwanis Golf Classics.As of 12/31/16 in the WSP2/MNT program, the Kern Club & members have given $18,946.66 or helped provide 3 shots to ELIMINATE 10,526 maternal/neonatal tetanus potential cases. Kern Kiwanis Club has now reached the KIF Bronze Level Club with $380.34 per member. On May 12, 2016, President Fred Kittredge presented to MNT Chair John Stephenson Sr. the 7th matched Walter Zeller Fellowship Diamond Level #1 with certificates and pin. On April 21, 2015, 2013-14 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Fuchsia Ward purchased Kern's 1st Hixson Fellowship with medallion and pin. On November 6, 2014, Kathe Davis was the 6th matched Walter Zeller Fellowship. On June 10, 2014, KIF processed Chevron's $1,250 Matching Grant for the Kittredge's Zellers. On April 3, 2014, 2013-14 KKFP VP Fred Kittredge was the 4th & 3-2-1 member Betty Kittredge was the 5th matched Walter Zeller Fellowship. On March 27, 2014, 2013-14 MNT Chair Ken Gibson was the 3rd matched Walter Zeller Fellowship. On July 3, 2013, Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Elect Fuchsia Ward purchased Kern's 2nd Water Zeller Fellowship with medallion and pin at the Vancouver International Convention. On 2/7/13, Kern Club's 1st matched Walter Zeller Fellowship was presented to 1998-99 President Charles Neville. In 2010-11, Kern Club received "The Year of Leadership Award" for donating $2,340 to MNT with 13 members share ($840) and Kern Club share ($1,500).
In the Div. 33 Bloodmobile Project (5/13/04), Div. 33 has raised $101,515.30 (or 100.11%) of the $101,400 cost to purchase a 3-bed unit for Houchin Blood Service. We have donated $9,888.00 (or 9.74%) and rank 1st place in clubs plus 4th place in donor groups. Our Thousand Dollar Club members and order are as follows: PP Walt Heisey (1), PLG Phil Field (15), CM & PP Dr. Steve Montgomery (17), PSDLG John Stephenson and John Jr. (19), PP Fuchsia Ward honored by Kern Kiwanis Club members (22), Kern Kiwanis Foundation, Inc.
