The Kiwanis Club of Kern, Bakersfield was chartered on May 27, 1948 by the Bakersfield Kiwanis Club. After 26 years, it was the second club in the city. Currently, the City of Bakersfield has a population of 352,000 and six Kiwanis Clubs which meet each day of the week except Tuesday.
Weekly luncheon meetings are held on Thursday from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Petroleum Club in the Stockdale Towers (12th floor), California Ave. and Mohawk St. (1/31/03)
Kern Kiwanis Club is the largest club in Division 33 with over 61 men and women members.

On September 3, 2011, 2010-11 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Kathy Orrin honored the following Distinguished Kiwanians: CNHD DKA - Kern PSDLG John Stephenson.

1973-74 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Wendall Kinney (Kern) is honored for writing the word and music of the official published "Hail Kiwanis" song. Word and Music (Middle)
1993-94 Div. 33 SDLG John Stephenson (Kern) is the 1st recipient of the "Stephenson Award of Excellence - Dedicated to all those who serve KIWIN'S with their hearts", and 2003-04 KIWIN'S Governor Vanessa Porter presented retiring District Administrator John with this award at the 28th District Convention in the Irvine Marriott Hotel on April 17, 2004. (Middle-Right) At the 87th Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha District Convention in Reno, NV on August 24, 2007, John was presented the Bert Shoemaker Award by Chair Paul Formosa. On May 18, 2008, Vanessa Porter graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Biology plus a Specialization in Ecology and Conservation Biology. She received the coveted Scarlet Key Award which is the highest honor a student can receive. She wrote "The guidance you've given me has truly shaped who I am today." I hope others would have many "Kiwanis moments" that I have had with the Service Leadership Programs (SLP). On July 7, 2010, Vanessa completed 2 years in Honduras serving in the Peace Corps.
Kern's Honor Club Banner was awarded in April 1999 by KIF. To date, Kern Club has the following: 69 - Hixsons & Diamond Levels, 3 - Tablet of Honor, 2 - Heritage Society and 7 - Cal-Nev-Ha Dunlap. Award Names As of 9/30/10 in the WSP1/IDD program, the Kern Club has given $74,430 or helped 1,488,600 kids from IDD. Our Club ranks 86th of 8,327 Clubs worldwide, 3rd of 543 Clubs in Cal-Nev-Ha District and 1st in Div. 33. (Right)
In the past to provide funds for Community Service Account (approximately $23,000/year), Kern Kiwanis Club has used the following fund-raisers: Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout, Fireworks Stand and 5th Annual Gold Classic Flyer.
In the Div. 33 Bloodmobile Project (5/13/04), Div. 33 has raised $101,515.30 (or 100.11%) of the $101,400 cost to purchase a 3-bed unit for Houchin Blood Service. We have donated $9,888.00 (or 9.74%) and rank 1st place in clubs plus 4th place in donor groups. Our Thousand Dollar Club members and order are as follows: PP Walt Heisey (1), PLG Phil Field (15), CM & PP Dr. Steve Montgomery (17), PSDLG John Stephenson and John Jr. (19), PP Fuchsia Ward honored by Kern Kiwanis Club members (22), Kern Kiwanis Foundation, Inc.
