Kern Kiwanis Club held its 9th Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout at a new location Jose's Golf Range & Pro Shop on 5101 Stine Rd. next to Kern Turf Supply. June 20-24, 2003
Div. 33 attended the Kiwanis International Convention,Indianapolis, Indiana with eight clubs represented by 11 delegates and 2 guests. Cal-Nev-Ha District wears their Aloha shirts during the Delegate Sessions. Pres. Fuchsia Ward and Pres. Elect Richard Wiens were Kern Club delegates. PSDLG John Stephenson was a delegate for The East Bakersfield Club since he is a past district officer. Pres. Fuchsia show off our aloha shirts for this year. (Lower Middle-Right)

Kern Kiwanis Club's held its 12th Fireworks Booth at the Save-Mart Shopping Center, Rosedale & Calloway. For the first time, Key Club & Circle K International Conventions were held jointly in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District (32nd) was in attendance with Gov. Vanessa Porter (Poway HS, San Diego). The photo was taken during the Service Fair held on Saturday, July 5th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with 2003-04 KI President Bob Moore (Florida District). (Lower Left) The Robert F Lucas Outstanding Lt. Governor Award was presented to three 2002-03 KIWIN'S LTGs: Coral Div. - Ruthie Kai, Emerald Div. - Vanessa Porter and Goldstone Div. Sherie Lou Santos.

Div. 33 DCM hosted by Oildale Club Pres. Elect Gary Palmear at Veterans Hall, on Norris Road Veterans Hall, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (5), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (2), Kern (8), Oildale (10), Rosedale (6), Shafter (2), South Bakersfield (3), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (3), Tehachapi (4), Westchester (9), Key Club PLTG (1) and KIWIN'S LTG & NCBC (2). Lt. Gov. Sunny presented a Dunlap to Joe Bradford (Westchester) (Left) and DKA to Pres. George Thomson (Golden K). Captain Blood Bill Altmiller passed out Bloodmobile pins to donors of $100+ and to PLTG Emily Gallegos for Garces High Key Club's donation of $500 (Middle). Gov. Elect candidates Larry McLeland & Robert Ward campaigned for votes. A two Dunlap drawing was held by PLG Phil Field with winners of Nancy Kerns (Bakersfield) & Cindy Horst (Southwest Bakersfield). Shafter's Pres. Amy McDaniel presented Water Watcher Awards to PLG Phil and Leah Field plus John Stephenson Sr. and Jr. for their work on the project.
August 14-17, 2003
Cal-Nev-Ha Kiwanis District Convention, Sacramento, CA. was attednded by Pres. Fuchsia Ward, Pres.-Elect Richard Wiens, Vice Pres. David Rogers, PP Rueben Perttula, PLG Phil & Leah Field and PSDLG John Stephenson. Div. 33 Foundation Ambassador Rueben Perttula (Kern) was awarded a plaque along with Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield for our 16th year of 100% club participation in both KI and Cal-Nev-Ha Foundations. (Right) PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern) was the 8th recipient of the Ernie Korte Lifetime Achievement Award with PLG Mel Khachigian (South) being the 2nd recipient. (Middle)

Amy McDaniel at Memorial Veteran's Hall, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (3), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (5), Golden K (2), Kern (8), Oildale (3), Rosedale (9), Shafter (13), South Bakersfield (4), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (4), Tehachapi (4), Westchester (8), and KIWIN'S LTG (1). 2001-02 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Robert McDaniel (Shafter) awarded the Distinguished Club pins to Presidents and Secretaries plus banner patch & $50 Kiwanis Store gift certificates for the following nine clubs: Bakersfield, Delano, Kern, Rosedale, South Bakersfield, Southwest Bakersfield, Taft, Tehachapi and Westchester. Congratulation to Robert McDaniel for being named Distinguished 2001-02 Lt. Gov. by Past Governor Greg Mason. Div. 33 Bloodmobile Chair Bill Altmiller (Oildale) conducted the drawing for the $350 Beef Raffle with the winner being Sharon Thesman. Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield announced this fundraise profited $5,377.76 bring our total to date of $42,135.78 towards our goal of $108,400 for purchasing a Kiwanis 3-bed Bloodmobile to be used by Houchin on small blood draws.

Kern Kiwanis Club Retirement & Installation Party was held at the Bakersfield Petroleum Club (12th floor), Social - 6:00 p.m. & Dinner - 7:00 p.m. Human & Spiritual Values Chair Michael Friedman presented to Sheila Ross the 2002-03 Layman of the Year Award for her late husband Bob Ross. Bob was an active and giving Kern member. PP Rudy Barrera, Sr. presented the 2002-03 Kiwanian of the Year Award to Inter-club Chair Warren Morse for his dedicated service in completing a Round Robin. He will have a Super Round Robin when the two members make their scheduled inter-clubs. 2002-03 President Fuchsia Ward presented to our two Charter Members PP John Boydstun, Sr. and PP Dr. Steve Montgomery their 55 years Legion of Honor Certificate. In addition, Sec. John Cove & Pres. Fuchsia presented Attendance Awards. 2002-03 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield (Golden K) retired the Officers and Board thanking them for an outstanding year with 14 new members. 2003-04 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Filmore Bender (South) installed Fuchsia Ward as Immediate Past President. As you can see, IPP Fuchsia was laughing with everyone else to the joke Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield her first DCM. Div. 33 DCM was jointly hosted by Oildale Club and Delano Club at Red Lion Inn, 2400 Camino Del Rio Ct., Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. Governor Counselor Don Miller presented to Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield a Dunlap with the assistance of PSDLG John Stephenson. (Left) East Bakersfield Club Pres. Norman Lohr and Delano Club Pres. Cindy Kinsey reporting on the activities of their respective clubs. This was Div. 33 Sponsored Youth night, and we were honored to have updates from Key Club Div. 33 LTG Emily Gallegos (Garces HS) and KIWIN'S Ruby Div. LTG Renae Elliott (East Bakersfield HS). In addition, 2002-03 Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District Administrator John Stephenson explained the joy of working with these outstanding service minded high school students. Without Kiwanis Clubs sponsorship and advisors, we would not have sponsored youth clubs from Elementary Schools to Colleges (288,250 members). The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (5), Delano (8*), East Bakersfield (13*), Golden K (4), Kern (5*), Oildale (5), Rosedale (9), Shafter (4*), South Bakersfield (4*), Southwest Bakersfield (5), Taft (5), Tehachapi (5*), Westchester (4*) plus Builders Club (1), KIWIN'S (6) and Key Club (27). * Sponsored Youth members in attendance

Div. 33 Governor's Official Visit hosted by Golden K Club at Bakersfield Petroleum Club, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. Kern had 13 members attend. Gov. Mark McDonald presented to PSDLG John Stephenson Kern's 2003 DSA with the help of Div. 33 Foundation Chair Rueben Perttula.
April 11-13, 2003
Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S 27th Convention, Warner Center, Woodland Hills, CA with 458 in attendance. Kern Kiwanis Pres. Fuchsia Ward drove 8 East Bakersfield members in a school van to convention. Here is what she said: "I have never attended a high school convention as energizing, inspiring, spirited and uplifting as the KIWIN'S Convention this past weekend. It was beyond any doubt, one of the most inspiring student convention's I have ever attended. Talk about sponsored youth takeover, the officers, committee chairs, and members of the KIWIN'S played every role necessary to put on a convention. The Kiwanis Administrators, Assistants, School Advisors, and Kiwanis members assisted, but this was a sponsored youth ran event." Adele Ward at OT's Cookhouse, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 6:30 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (3), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (2), Kern (4/1), Oildale (3), Rosedale (5), Shafter (2), South Bakersfield (1), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (18/3), Tehachapi (3), Westchester (4/3), and KIWIN'S LTG (1). Westchester PP Don Fowler introduced Margaret Dennis who donated $1,000 to the Bloodmobile Project in her husband Al's memory. (Lower Right) Taft Pres. Adele Ward assisted Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield and Bloodmobile Chair Bill Altmiller placing a donation check in a replica of the 3-bed unit.
