- Kern presents 1998 Junior Miss Program Celebrating 26 years of excellence at Harvey Auditorium, 7:00 p.m. Mindi Ehrlich of Centennial High was the winner over 17 wonderful young girls. Jr. Miss Chair was PLG Willis Lazelle.

- Kern held Special Ed Kids Fishing Trip at Hart Park, 9 a.m.with 13 students who were just outstanding. The "iced down" fish from Kernville were not biting as in the past years, and we used Plan B so that each kid got one fish. Chair PE Charles Neville wants to thanks the Kern members and spouse: Rudy Berrera, IPP John Cove, Clint Douglass, Al & Yoko Lum, Major Lynn Rodal, PSDLG John Stephenson plus our cooks PP Wally Pitchford and PP Cal Wilson.

- VP Tammy Lodermeier arranged a wonderful 50th Charter Night at the Bakersfield Country Club, 6:30 p.m. Both Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor Reid Allen and Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Rudy Arambula were present to welcome seventeen Past Presidents for the class picture: 1960 John Boydstun, 1963 PLG Wendall Kinney, 1966 Ed Wilson, 1968 PLG Frank Sweder, 1969-70 Charles Anspach, 1974-75 Jim Ware, 1976-77 Ron Rohmiller, 1977-78 PLG Willis Lazelle, 1979-80 Walter Heisey, 1980-81 Cal Wilson, 1984-85 Ralph Rudie, 1985-86 Dr. Steve Montgomery, 1989-90 & 1991-92 PSDLG John Stephenson, 1990-91 Ken Wainwright, 1993-94 David Moore, 1994-95 John Wagner, 1995-96 Rueben Perttula.

- 4th Annual Kern Kiwanis Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout, Stroke Cutters. PSDLG John Stephenson, MDHIOS Chair, reported the event raised $15,068 for local charities and Iodine Deficiency Disorders. A total of 431 golfers participated in this year's 2-1/2 hour Saturday rains shorten event. The Semi-finals had a total of 204 golfers that qualified 1374 shots to the pin. During the ten single-shot Finals, no golfer made a $1,000,000 hole-in-one. Dr. Tom Berry was 1st place with 8.92' and $1,000, Wayne Tidwell was 2nd place with 17.67' and $500 and Bryan Porter was 3rd place with 22.79' and $250. A total of 62 members worked 732 hours on this event.

Phil Field, Honorary Member Leah Field, Director Fuchsia Ward & PSDLG John Stephenson (1998-99 District Youth Service Chair presented a workshop on Friday.) - The 1998-99 Installation was held at Four-Points Sheraton. Fuchsia Ward began the evening by giving the invocation and Past Pres. Phil Field introduced the head table. Brian Lonbeck and the Sounds of Country entertained us with great music. Past Pres. Phil Field recognized and thanked each of his chairpersons for their outstanding work thoughout the year. Past Secretary Michael McCarthy presented Legion of Honor and Perfect Attenance awards. PSDLG John Stephenson retired the 1997-98 Officers and Directors. 1998-98 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Marvin Fuller (Oildale) installed the following: Officers - Presisdent Charles Neville, President Elect Tammy Lodermeier, Vice President Rudy Barrera, Secretary/Treasurer John Cove and Immediate Past President Phil Field; and Directors - Milo Hall, Lynn Hathaway, Andy Kupka, Al Lum, Mike McCarthy, Warren Morse, Bob Ross, Fuchsia Ward and Charles Williams. President Neville presented IPP Field with his gavel and apprecation plaque commemorating his year Also, he was given a memory album of his year in office along with "First Lady" Leah Field. Congratulation IPP Phil Field for his outsanding leadership and devotion to this club.
