The annual Christmas Party was held at the Kate's home that was beautifully decorated with a myriad of color-lights cascading from the roof top to the bushes and trees. Chef David Rodgers and crew did a great job barbecuing Tri-Tip and Chicken to perfection. Everyone enjoyed the party. We thank George and Catherine for once again opening their home to the club. Also, thanks to Fuchsia Ward for coordinating this function.

Charles Neville & Pres.-Elect Wall Pitchford (Left) along with IPP Phil & Honorary member Leah Field (Middle). 1998-99 District Chair PSDLG John Stephenson presented a workshop on Youth Services; and as the Vice Chair of the Sponsored Youth Scholarship Fund, he worked the CNHF booth (Right).

Official Visit by Governor Bob Maurer to Div. 33 at Hodel's Olive Drive, Social 6:30 p.m. & Dinner at 7:00 p.m. Governor Bob presented to President Charles Neville a banner patch for the Kern Club's donating $100 per member to the WSP-IDD project. As of 1/31/99, Kern Club has donated $20,439.56 to WSP-IDD and is ranked 3rd in the District. Governor Bob also represented Kern Club's 1998-99 Hixsons: Children's Welfare Committee Lynn Hathaway, Interclub Chair & Immediate Past President Phil Field and Boys & Girls Committee Chair & Firework Chair Fuchsia Ward.

Kern presents 2000 Junior Miss Program Celebrating 27 years of excellence at Harvey Auditorium, 7:00 p.m. Jr. Miss Chair was PLG Willis Lazelle. Melissa Miller captured Bakersfield's Junior Miss title and a $2,200 scholarship in the annual competition. Melissa performed Ballet Solo on Pointe, and attends Stockdale High School. First runner-up was Alicia Sparks who received a $1,200 scholarship. Alicia performed Ballet, and attends Centennial High School.) Second runner-up was Leslie Thornton who received a $1,000 Scholarship. Leslie performed Flute, and attends East Bakersfield High School where she is member of our Key Club. A total of $10,500 of scholarships were given with each participant receiving at least a $100 scholarship. Thanks to Rosedale Kiwanis for sponsoring the $800 scholarship to the Third runner-up.

East Bakersfield High Kiwin's attended the 23rd Annual Cal-Nev-Ha District Kiwin's Convention "Journey into Service for Tomorrow", San Jose Double Tree Hotel, San Jose, CA. Seventeen Kiwin's members (11 girls & 6 boys) enjoyed an outstanding convention, and they were chaperoned by Mrs Michelle Sanders (Faculty Advisor), PSDLG John Stephenson (Kiwanis Vice Advisor) & Mrs. Kathy Maloney (Parent). East Bakersfield's 1998-99 Ruby Division Kiwin's Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Pluta was the Convention Chair, and she was elected the 1999-2000 District Kiwin's Governor. The 1999-2000 Ruby Division Kiwin's Lt. Governor is EB's Priscilla Rojas.

5th Annual Kern Kiwanis Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout, Stroke Cutters. PSDLG John Stephenson and Tammy Lodermeier (South Bakersfield) presented the first place check of $1,000 to Stan Pryor who was 9.35 feet from the pin. Second was John McKiearnan with $500 (17.29 feet) and third was Brandon Long with $250 (29.87 feet). A total of 255 out of 501 golfers qualified by getting their ball in a 12 foot circle which gave them 3 balls for semi-finals. The 10 closest to the pin had one shot each for the Million Dollars. Seven hole-in-ones were made during the qualifying rounds, and one was made in the semi-finals. The ball sales were $16,111 or $1,043 higher than last year. 1999 MDHIOS Information Flyer

Kiwanis International Convention, Denver, CO. was attended by President Charles and Ann Neville, President-designate Wally & Ruth Pitchford and PSDLG John Stephenson. During the Q&A, 1998-99 Pres. Glen Bagnell, 1999-2000 Pres. Nettles Brown, 2000-2001 President Bo Shafer and 1997-98 Pres. Walter Sellers were on stage.

Kern Club's Red Devil Fireworks Stand was located at K-Mart Shopping Center, Rosedale & Calloway, and the net sales were $4,760. Chair Fuchsia Ward presented the drawing prize to winner Tom Smith family during the afternoon of July 4, 1999. (Right)

The Cal-Nev-Ha District Convention hosted in Bakersfield by Division 33 was a great success. Kern Club had 100% registration. Three members were part of the Host Committee: PSDLG John Stephenson - Assistant Convention Chair; Fuchsia Ward - Registration Chair and IPP Phil Field - Convention Booths Chair. Forty-two members, two spouses and one guest worked on the convention. Chair Fuchsia Ward did and outstanding job in organizing and running the Registration area. She recruited the following clubs for help: Shafter - 8; Golden K - 5; Westchester - 4; Taft - 1; Southwest - 1 and Out of Division - 1. The Registration area was in the ballroom lobby of the Holiday Inn Select. (Left)
