- March 21, 2002
- Cal-Nev-Ha District Official Visit to Div. 33 hosted by Shafter Club at Four Points Sheraton, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Meeting - 7:00 p.m. Club Presidents met with Gov. Greg & First Lady Tammie at 5:00 p.m. Div. 33 first DKA was awarded to PSDLG John Stephenson and pinned by FL Amy. Gov. Greg Mason presented two Dunlaps to FL Amy and Lt. Gov. Bob that were a surprise to both. (Lower Right) Div. 33 presented 14 DSA's from their 13 clubs. FL Amy presented FL Tammie with a $1,000 check for her Pediatric Trauma Project plus additional gifts to Gov. Greg.

- April 11, 2002
- Division 33 held the 2002-03 Election at Kern County Builders' Exchange, 5:45 p.m., with 9 clubs and 14 delegates participating. Sunny Scofield (Golden K) was elected as Lt. Governor-designate by unanimous ballot. South Bakersfield Pres. Keith Brice placed in nomination Filmore Bender, and he was elected Lt. Governor Elect-designate by unanimous ballot.

- Div. 33 DCM hosted by Taft Club at Red Lion Inn, 2400 Camino Del Rio Ct., Social - 6:30 p.m. & Meeting - 7:00 p.m.
- April 19-20, 2002
- 26th Annual Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District of Key Club International was held at the Holiday Inn, Visalia, CA. Over 500 KIWIN'S celebrated their 1st year as the 32nd District of KCI. 2001-02 KIWIN'S Governor Elizabeth Steinfield (El Toro High School) and District Administrator Brendan Hendrick (Kiwanis Club of Oxnard) were retired by Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor Greg Mason. 2002-03 KIWIN'S Governor Lani Nguyen (Fountain Valley High School) and District Administrator John Stephenson (Kiwanis Club of Kern, Bakersfield) were installed by Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor-elect Mark McDonald.
- April 27-28, 2002
- The American Cancer Society - Relay For Life was held at Cal State Bakersfield Soccer Fields. About 900 cancer survivors walked the first lap on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the following Kiwanis Div. 33 cancer survivors: (L-R) PLG Mel Khachigian (South); PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern); Amy Ainsworth (Bakersfield); Carolyn Beck (Southwest CP Alan wife); and Paul Weller (Westchester). (Lower Middle-Right) First lap Survivors not pictured were: PFL Leah Field (Kern) and Rev. Clark Bailey (Tehachapi). Div. 33 "Kiwanis Cares" teams had 30 out of the nearly 5000 participants for the 24 hour event. Div. 33 had two team sites (#165 & 166) with the "K" sign and Castle front. Div. 33 two teams were coordinator by Nancy Kerns (Bakersfield) raising $10,000. PSDLG John Stephenson is back to health with a 2 hour walk at the start and end of the Relay for Life. At the closing ceremonies on Sunday morning, the 186 teams heard that the 2002 Relay for Life raised $950,000 an increase of $250,000 over last year with their help.

- 2002-03 KIWIN'S Governor Lani Nguyen (Fountain Valley High School) and District Administrator John Stephenson (Kiwanis Club of Kern, Bakersfield) will attend Governor and Administrator Training Conference (GATC) in Indianapolis, ID.

- Div. 33 DCM was hosted by East & Delano Clubs at Red Lion Inn, 2400 Camino Del Rio Ct., Social - 6:30 p.m. & Meeting - 7:00 p.m. The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (4), Delano (4), East Bakersfield (11), Golden K (0), Kern (5), Oildale (1), Rosedale (6), Shafter (5), South Bakersfield (5), Southwest Bakersfield (5), Taft (0), Tehachapi (8) and Westchester (5).
- May 30-June 2, 2002
- Kern Kiwanis Club's 8th Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout at #1 Golf Driving Range and Pro Shop (formerly Stroke Cutters). PSDLG John Stephenson and Tammy Lodermeier (South Bakersfield) are Co-Chairs. The total ball sales were $8,831 ($3,575 under 2001). A total of 216 golfers participated in this years event. Two hole-in-ones were made during qualifying rounds. The Semi-final round had a total of 144 golfers that qualified 1296 shots to pin. During the ten-shot Finals, no golfer made a $1,000,000 hole-in-one. The following were closest to the pin: 1st Richard Sturgill 16.00' - $1,000; 2nd Chuck Blacklock 17.20' - $500; and 3rd Randy Webb 19.00' - $250. - Kiwanis International Convention-New Orleans was attended by 15 Kiwanians and 6 Guests. A total of 12 of the 13 clubs were represented in the House Of Delegates in our aloha shirts. (Lower Middle-Left)

- Cal-Nev-Ha District Board of Trustees Meeting-New Orleans.
- July 3-7, 2002
- Key Club International Convention was held at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel with 2,200 in attendance including 1,000 delegates. Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District Administrator PSDLG John Stephenson provided transportation for EBHS KIWIN'S Ruby Division LTG Renae Elliott to attend as a delegate.

- 2002-03 Lt. Gov. Sunny Scofield held the Div. 33 Club Leadership Education with Certified Kiwanis Instructor PLG Richard Olmstead (Div. 38) at First Presbyterian Church, 17th and H Street, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eleven of 13 Clubs with 29 Kiwanis were in attendance. (Lower Left) Those participating included: 1 Lt. Gov.-designate, 10 President-designate, 10 Secretaries-designate, 3 Treasurer-designate, 1 Division Chair, 1 2001-02 Lt. Gov. and 3 Past Lt. Govs. Thanks to the church group for serving wonderful continental breakfast and lunch.

- Div. 33 DCM hosted by Tehachapi Club at The Apple Shed, 333 E. Tehachapi Blvd., Social - 6:30 p.m. & Meeting - 7:00 p.m. Governor Greg Mason presented Cal-Nev-Ha District Foundation's grant for $922 to Ray Hino of the Tehachapi Valley Health Care District Hospital which is part of First Lady Tammie's Pediatric Trauma Program. Tehachapi President Dick Patteson presented Ray with a matching sum. (Middle) The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (0), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (1/2), Kern (4), Oildale (2), Rosedale (10), Shafter (4), South Bakersfield (0), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (7), Tehachapi (15/5) and Westchester (5).

- Tehachapi Kiwanis Club's 7th Charity Golf Tournament at Horse Thief Country Club at Stallion Springs. Pres-Elect Mike Kelley presented the awards and drawing prizes. For the Kiwanis Team Plaque, both Shafter Club and Kern Club were tied, and in a coin toss PSDLG John Stephenson called heads and his team was the winner (John Boydstun Sr., son Jay and Tom Poor). - Div. 33 Installation and Retiring Party was held at Maitia's Basque Cafe, 4420 Coffee Road, Bakersfield, CA with Social - 6:30 p.m. and Dinner - 7:00 p.m. Shafter Past Pres. Daniel Knapp was Master of Ceremonies. The Shafter Club had 35 of the 112 in attendance.
- 2000-2001 Lt. Gov. Phil Field (Kern) was pined by PFL Leah after being retired by PLG Willis Lazelle.
- 2001-02 Lt. Gov.-elect Sunny Scofield (Golden K) was pined after being installed by PSDLG John Stephenson.
- 2001-02 Lt. Gov. Robert McDaniel (Shafter) was pined by FL Amy after being installed by PSDLG John Stephenson.

Robert McDaniel held the Div. 33 Club Leadership Education with Certified Kiwanis Instructor at RiverLakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All 13 Clubs with 31 Kiwanis were in attendance. Those participating included: 11 President-designate, 11 Secretaries-designate, 1 Treasurer-designate, 1 President Pro Temp, 1 Lt. Gov. Elect-designate, 2000-01 Lt. Gov. and 2 Past Lt. Govs. Thanks to First Lady Amy McDaniel for serving wonderful continental breakfast and lunch.

- Div. 33 Blood Drive was hosted by Oildale Club at noon, NOR Veterans Hall, 400 Norris Rd. Chair Bill Altmiller arranged for Houchin Community Blood Bank staff to process each donor as well as coverage from TV & Radio. Delano PP Arny Morrison and Captain Blood Bill giving blood. Div. 33 Lt.Gov. Judge Robert McDaniel welcomed Mayor Harvey Hall as the guest speaker.

- The City of Bakersfield and Kern High School District 47th Annual Teen Government Day was hosted by Kern Kiwanis Club at noon, NOR Veterans Hall, 400 Norris Rd. After lunch they listened to a speaker, Supervisor Jon McQuiston. Supervisor McQuiston encouraged the students to continue their educational career beyond high school, donate some time and expertise to community improvement efforts and become involved in the political arena. Political involvement according to Supervisor McQuiston makes you a better-informed community person. He shared two important guiding principles that keep his life enriched: 1) To never promise more than they could deliver, but deliver more than promised and 2) In losing anything, always understand the meaning of why you lost.

- At their regular meeting, Westchester President Don Fowler arranged for Kern County Supervisor District 3 Barbara Patrick to present PLG Jim Turner with a proclamation to rename the Jamison Park to Jim "Pop" Turner Park. Big Jim with wife Maddie stand behind the plaque just presented. The plaque reads as follows: JIM "POP" TURNER PARK Dedicated in his honor for his time and efforts to establish and maintain this park for the children of Kern County. A project of the Kiwanis Club of Westchester, Division 33, Cal-Nev-Ha District. SINCE 1986. (Lower Right) Newspaper Story The attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (4), East Bakersfield (7), Golden K (2), Kern (7), Rosedale (4), South Bakersfield (6), Southwest Bakersfield (3), Taft (4), Westchester & spouses (39), Family (17) and Guests (3).

- Nancy Kerns, Tree Foundation Committee, advised Div. 33 club presidents that 400 trees will be planted at Liberty Park at the corner of Brimhall and Jewetta. By February 20, 2002, call PLG Phil Field at 324-4921 or Nancy Kerns at 323-8353 ext. 119 if your club wants to be involved.
