- CNH Kiwanis District Convention was held at the Fresno Convention Center with housing near the airport requiring shuttles. 2004-05 "Go for the Gold" Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Joe & FL Nadine were retired, and 2005-06 "The Best Show in Town" Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Wayne & FL Lynn Deats were installed. Club members & guest attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (4), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (4), Golden K (1), Kern (3), Oildale (4), Rosedale (0), Shafter (2), South Bakersfield (3), Southwest Bakersfield (0), Taft (3), Tehachapi (3/1) and Westchester (4). Cindy Horst at Bakersfield Petroleum Club - 2nd Floor, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. (Middle) The clubs in attendance were as follows: Bakersfield (4), Delano (0), East Bakersfield (1), Golden K (2), Kern (8/1), Oildale (4), Rosedale (3), Shafter (1/1), South Bakersfield (5), Southwest Bakersfield (8/2), Taft (1/1), Tehachapi (4), Westchester (3). A blackout didn't deter the dinner table conversation which went none stop.

- PSDLG John Stephenson was the 2003-04 KIWIN'S Key Club District Administrator when Governor Vanessa Porter (Poway HS) was one of 12 Distinguished Governors from 32 Key Club International Districts. She went to Boston Univ. last year and made the Dean's list. On August 11, 2005, she returned home from 2 months in Solwezi, Zambia where she conducted a micro project in Health classes at the Meheba refugee settlement. Vanessa was part of a group of American university students from FORGE, or Facilitating Opportunities for Refugee Growth and Empowerment. Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha District Div. 33 Clubs (Golden K, Kern & Westchester) plus individual members have collected $1,500 to help run her project during the coming year. Photos

- On Sunday, a Welcome Party with 20 Celebrities was held at Buck Owens Crystal Palace (6:00 p.m.). On Monday, Kern Kiwanis Club's Inaugural Celebrity Golf Tournament chaired by Lance Horton was held at Seven Oaks Country Club Golf Course with a Shotgun Scramble (9:30 a.m.) plus an Auction & Awards Luncheon (2:30 p.m.). - Div. 33 Teen Government Day was hosted by Southwest Club Pres. Cindy Horst at the Norris Road Veterans Center. Judge Mike Bush, the event coordinator and member of the Bakersfield Club, invites all Div. 33 clubs to attend and urges all Metropolitan Bakersfield clubs to support the event with an interclub. - Mayor's Freeway Cleanup was held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with Lt. Gov. Wayne Deats, Jr. and Mayor Harvey Hall welcoming 12 Kiwanians at the Stockdale Park & Ride (west of Oak Street, east of Real Road, next to Kaiser Permanente). The Div. 33 Clubs and members working today were: Bakersfield (PP Sheila Hayden), East Bakersfield (Dona Baker & D.J. Whipple), Golden K (Sec. - Kiwanis Blood Drive Day was held at NOR Veterans Hall, 400 Norris Road in Oildale at 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. FREE Lunch to Donors plus a FREE Cholesterol Test. Inspect "Half Pint" the new Kiwanis 3-bed Bloodmobile. Bakersfield Police Chief Bill Rector (Bakersfield Club) topic will be "Are the red light traffic cameras really successful?" If you didn't give blood on this Wednesday, be sure to donate anytime during the week at either Houchin Blood Bank locations and tell them "Captain Blood" sent you. Photos

- In the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha District Magazine on page 9, the following article on EBHS KIWIN'S Key Club members were featured:
"The East Bakersfield High KIWIN'S Club in December packed 1,200 family boxes for the Salvation Army, and also helped with their present-wrapping and Christmas party. Club members also assisted with roadside cleanup at two freeway offramps. And the month started with members carrying banners in the local Bakersfield Christmas Parade, and ended with nine members traveling to Pasadena to decorate Rose floats."

2005-06 KIWIN'S Ruby Div. LTG Daniel Munn (EBHS) has been honored with the Robert F. Lucas Outstanding Lt. Governor Award that will be presented at the Boston Key Club International Convention, July 1-5, 2006, and his tour expenses of $1,000 was raised at the DCM by Clubs and Kiwanians support of his work during the past year. - Division 33 hosted a dinner & antique/art auction at Hodel's Family Restaurant on May 19, 2006 with
fellowship starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and auction at 7:00 p.m. Lt. Gov. Wayne Deats, Jr. announced that $4,000 from the auction was donated to the Bakersfield Homeless Center for children.

- The Delano Kiwanis is co-sponsoring, along with the Delano Chamber of Commerece, the Star Spangled Spectacular at Lake Woollomes, East of Delano, on Sunday, July 2. The event hours are from 1:00-10:00 p.m.
It is a family fun day with food, live music (five bands), magicians, balloon artists, and activities and events thoughout the day, ending with a fireworks show over the lake. We need help with some of the logistics for the day. Also, we need people to assist with the admissions, parking, and concessions.

- Div. 33 Lt. Governor's Retirement & Installation Dinner was held at Double Tree Hotel, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Dinner - 7:00 p.m. 2006-07 Cal-Nev-Ha Governor George Francis will retire 2005-06 Lt. Gov. Wayne Deats, Jr. (Bakersfield) and install 2006-07 Lt. Gov.-Elect Fuchsia Ward (Kern) and 2006-07 Lt. Gov. Rev. Donald Vereen (Westchester). - The Kiwanis Club of South Bakersfield successfully held its first annual Kids Safety Carnival outside the California Living Museum on September 16th, 2006. The children and their parents came out on a beautiful fall day to hug local team mascots, get ID'd, learn to use 911, meet the K-9 dogs, participate in a Bike Rodeo, the Quiz Trail and games. The face painting booth was a big draw.
The ladder truck, ambulance, highway patrol, and police were on hand for demonstrations and stickers. Hamburgers and hotdogs were cooking, and bike raffles were held every 15 minutes from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.. Almost 50 helmets were given away, along with prizes for the several hundred attendees, and the Highway Patrol found and replaced 6 defective car seats at no charge. Many thanks to the South High Key Club for their participation and help also!

Governor's Retirement & Installation Dinner was held at Hodel's, Olive Dr. @ Hwy. 99, Social - 6:00 p.m. & Dinner - 6:30 p.m. Master of Ceremonies John Surface introduced his boss Bakersfield City Mayor Harvey Hall who thanked the Div. 33 Kiwanis and SOAP Club's for their outstanding service projects that have changed "One Child and One Community at a time." 2005-06 Cal-Nev-Ha Governor-Elect George Francis retired 2004-05 Lt. Gov. Joe Whitby and installed 2005-06 Lt. Gov.-Elect Rev. Don Vereen and 2005-06 Lt. Gov. Wayne Deats, Jr. Our goal is to be "The Best Show in Town" and "Together We Can." Photos.
