Division 33 just finished a great month and we are into February with gusto. Governor Nelson and First Lady Elva visited us on January 10 to a full house. A wonderful evening included highlighting many deserving Kiwanians who received Distinguished Service Awards from their clubs.
Also, congratulations to PLG Harvey Brockmeyer (South Bakersfield) for being the first Kiwanian in Division 33 and in Cal-Nev-Ha District to be certified for the 1996-97 Distinguished Kiwanian Award by Governor Nelson.
Those of us that are set to go to the North Mid-Winter Conference in Modesto are looking forward to an educational (and lots of fun) day with tons of good fellowship. Thanks to PLG Jim Turner for making the arrangements of a Kiwanis Division 33 train car on Amtrak.
Kiwanian and clubs who are going to the Kiwanis International Convention in Nashville? Please get your registration form in and make your hotel reservations.
This month I will be finishing up official board and club visits. I owe Shafter big time because of my "brain fade"!
Some of the most memorable times I have had so far are the special charter nights and other unique events. Thanks everyone.
Lastly, lets work harder now into spring time on becoming a DISTINGUISHED KIWANIAN and a DISTINGUISHED CLUB.
Kiwanis Division 33, a part of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International, has a membership near five hundred men and women serving their communities in Central and Western Kern County, California.

KEY CLUB DIVISION 33
LT. GOV. POLLY HA
The 1997 Division 33 Conclave was held on February 1, 1997. With over 50 people in attendance, 18 voting delegates, and three qualified candidates, the conclave was a success! The caucusing was very exciting and the candidates did a wonderful job to impress the delegates. Though the course of the conclave Lt. Governor Polly Ha was endorsed by Division 33 Key Club for Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor. With the help of all participating Key Clubs and Mr. and Mrs. David Ha, the Spaghetti Dinner was delicious (and free!). Upcoming events were discussed and then the 1997-1998 Lt. Governor, Shiba Kamboj from Stockdale was announced as 1996-1997 Lt. Governor-Elect.
The 51st Annual Cal-Nev-Ha Key Club Convention will be held on the weekend of April 11-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Last year many clubs in Division 33 were unable to attend. These clubs should make a big effort to send representatives this year. We are very fortunate that we are only a few hours away from Anaheim. Many clubs have difficulty in finding a chaperone and transportation. Sponsoring Kiwanis should try to support their Key Club if this is the case and volunteer to attend this convention as a chaperone and provide transportation.

KIWANIS ON INTERNET!
Past Super Distinguished Lt. Governor John Stephenson (Kern) has created Home Pages on the World Wide Web (WWW) for both Cal-Nev-Ha Division 33 and Kern Kiwanis Club. Kern member David Rogers of Local News Network will be our Internet Service Provider (ISP). For a look at our first efforts on the Web, use the following addresses:
Also, Taft Kiwanis Club President Howard Knost Jr. has a Web link on the Division 33 Home Page above.
If other Division 33 clubs have a working Club Home Page or would like to develop one, please contact John Stephenson at 871-4290.
DIVISION 33'S ELECTIONS
It is time to prepare for Division 33's elections of the 1997-98 Lt. Governor and Lt. Governor-Elect. The election conference is scheduled for March 20, 1997 prior to DCM hosted by Kern Kiwanis.
Since our division rotates the leadership among the clubs, all clubs have an equal opportunity to provide a Lt. Governor-Elect. This method allows the club at the top of the list to drop to the third position if it does not have a candidate. If none of the three clubs at the top of the list have candidates, then those clubs have "priority" for the next year. When a club reaches the top of the list for a second time without providing a candidate, they will be dropped to the bottom just ahead of the club that did have a candidate. According to district bylaws, all clubs have the opportunity to nominate a candidate. Delegates should follow the principles of Kiwanis, and consider the ability of the candidate and his /her service and experience in Kiwanis. If two or more candidates were equal in experience, our division policy would give priority to a candidate from the club that hasn't had one for the longest period of time.
This years rotation list of clubs are:
Shafter, Oildale, Taft, Rosedale, Kern, Golden K, Tehachapi, Bakersfield, Delano, Westchester, East Bakersfield, and South Bakersfield.
Lt. Governor John Rodgers will call the election conference, and the president and immediate past president of each club are the only voting delegates. Each will have one vote only. In the event of the inability of either or both to attend, the club's board must elect one or two alternate representatives to attend the election conference and vote in their stead. An alternate must present a statement of his / her election to this year's chairman of the election conference, PLG Stan Redmond. The statement must be signed by the club secretary.
Please advise Lt. Governor John Rodgers of any member who has been a president of a Kiwanis Club that is interested in the position of Lt. Governor-Elect (1997-98). Potential candidates are asked to consult with Lt. Governor John regarding the current requirements of the job. The nominee should then provide a written statement in the form of a letter that they will carry out the responsibilities of the office if elected.
1996-97 TRAVELING CLUB
Division Interclub Chair Willis Lazelle has established the "Traveling Club" schedule as follows: Westchester, Taft, Shafter, Kern, Delano, Bakersfield, Tehachapi, South Bakersfield, Golden K, East Bakersfield, Oildale, Rosedale and Westchester (Lt. Gov. Home Club). The clubs shown above in bold have received the "Traveling Club" to date.
Lt. Governor John Rodgers will present a "Traveling Club Award" to the club with the most creative presentation, based on photographs supplied to the Division Interclub Chair PLG Willis Lazelle at P.O. Box 773, 93302-0773 (805/322-6738).
