A wonderful Prayer Breakfast was held in Tehachapi. Division 33 was well represented. Thanks to the Tehachapi Club and to all the other clubs and their members who took time out of their busy schedule to meet and talk to the Lord.
We are on the downhill side of the Kiwanis Year. There are many important activities and areas that members and clubs should be focusing on. Every club must hold its Officer and Board elections and make the results known. Please get those reports in ASAP. Also Delegate Official Registration for the Nashville Convention is very important for your club and for the division. Please notice the word Official!!!! IDD reports are slowly catching up with our contributions. Please keep working on this project. It is of vital importance to many people around the world. Thanks for your support so far. Distinguished Kiwanians are popping up all over the landscape. How is your garden growing? Members, keep up the effort to become a D.K. Awardee.
My continuing thanks to all of you who are so generous with your time in helping me with my year. Let's all finish with a flurry.

DIVISION 33 PRAYER BREAKFAST
Division 33's annual prayer breakfast was held on May 1st, the National Day of Prayer, in conjunction with the eleventh annual Tehachapi Community Prayer Breakfast. The event was organized by the Human & Spiritual Values Committee (George Wolters, Chairman) of the host Tehachapi Kiwanis club, and was held in the Tehachapi VFW Hall. The Cafeteria staff from Tehachapi High School provided breakfast. Approximately 140 people attended.
Division 33 was represented by: six members from the Westchester club (including Lt. Gov. John Rodgers and Div. Human & Spiritual Values Chairman Jim Turner, accompanied by his wife Mattie); four members each from the Oildale, Bakersfield and Kern clubs (including Div. Counselor John Stephenson); two members from the Taft
club; and Lt. Gov. Elect Rudy Arambula from the South Bakersfield club. Additional, 25 Tehachapi Kiwanians were present in a variety of roles.
Following welcoming remarks by community leaders and invocation by PLG Jim Turner, the program comprised scripture reading and prayers by local clergymen, live spiritual music provided by an
instrumental/vocal duets and a featured speaker's address. The speaker was Mr. Warren Carter, Chairman of Watson Realty. Together with his wife, who also attended, Mr. Carter has participated in a wide range of prayer breakfast events, from hometown McFarland to the National Prayer Breakfasts in Washington, D.C. and international ones, such as one in Lima, Peru that he described. He was eloquently down-to-earth in expressing the importance and effectiveness of regular prayer by individuals and by small groups. His talk was inspiring and attendees left feeling good about having been there. -Tehachapi President Paul Combs

CHILDREN' S MIRACLE NETWORK
The 1997 Children's Miracle Network (CMN) generates funds and awareness for children's health care services at 165 member hospitals in the United States and Canada. CMN Champions has been broadcasting its annual show since 1982 and generated over $1 billion. Kiwanis International has been a National Sponsor since the start. Bakersfield Memorial Health Foundation/Bakersfield Memorial Hospital has partnered with CMN since 1992. Since then, the Foundation has raised over $600,000 for children health care services at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. CMN's hallmark is that 100 percent of funds raised locally stay local.
The Foundation's current goal is to help purchase an obstetrical information system. The current system, purchased ten years ago, does not have the capabilities to accept software upgrades and is no longer technically supportable. The new system has expanded capabilities that will ensure accurate recording of important data from fetal monitoring. The system will also prevent duplicate charting, which results in more effective use of nursing time with the patient. The equipment enables nurses and doctors to start caring for the baby before it is born.
The 1997 CMN Champions broadcast are May 31 – June 1. Each Division 33 club's Young Children Priority One Chair need to get their check to Division CMN Chair Bill Bush (Oildale) by DCM on May 15 at Shafter Kiwanis. For more information, call Bill at (B) 399-2936 or (H) 871-9337
