DIVISION 33 LT. GOV. BULLETIN

September 1997

Editor Rudy Arambula (324-3143 / 871-8073)

From the Lt. Governor

As my year closes, Mary Ann and I will be forever grateful for the experience of the past year. As you read through this newsletter you will see many club and individual achievements. These are wonderful signs for our division. Many thanks and congratulations to all of you who excelled. Thanks to my Presidents and Secretaries for super jobs. Thanks to my splendid guiding hand PLG John Stephenson for above and beyond duty. Lets give Lt. Governor Rudy every ounce of service we can so he can have a super year. Finally, God bless all of you.

On Thursday, September 18, the Division 33 Lt. Governor Retirement and Installation Dinner was held at the Holiday Inn Select. 1972-73 Lt. Governor Mel Khachigian (South Bakersfield) retired 1996-97 Lt. Governor John Rodgers (Westchester) from office with First Lady Mary Ann pinning him.

MR. BAKERSFIELD' FETED FOR DECADES OF CONTRIBUTIONS

Will Rogers liked to talk about great heroes. He would have liked to have known Floyd Burcham.

"We can't all be heroes," Rogers once said. "Cause someone has to sit on the curb to clap as they pass by."

Not from the curb but from their seats at Veterans Hall on Norris Road did about 175 Kiwanis Club members and friends clap as Burcham passed before them on Tuesday. They had gathered to pay tribute to a man whom many people regard as the real "Mr. Bakersfield" because of his unwavering generosity and commitment to the community.

Moreover, they were there to honor Burcham, 85, as the Kiwanis Division 33's Man of the Year, the first ever distinction awarded by the division of Kiwanis, which comprises about 13 Kern County clubs. - Andy Kehe, Californian

1996-97 TRAVELING CLUB

The "Traveling Club" finally made it home when Rosedale delivered it to Westchester (Lt. Gov. Home Club) on the final week. The schedule got side- tracked by Delano for several months. Be sure to send in pictures to 1996-97 Lt. Gov. John Rodgers so he can award the Division 33 Club with the best way to hide the "Traveling Club".

SUNNY SCOFIELD DONATES BASKET FOR IDD

At Pasadena District Convention, 1997-98 Golden K President Sunny Scofield bought a beautifully decorated basket, filled with goodies, at the IDD auction for $225.00

It occurred to her that the basket could be used to make more money for IDD - so she did not open it.

Tickets are being sold at each Division 33 Clubs for 1 ticket at $2 and 3 tickets at $5. All funds raised will be donated to IDD by each club from their ticket sales.

The drawing will take place on the evening of October 16 at the Division Council Meeting. Consolation prizes have been donated by many clubs.

Thanks Sunny for your support of the WSP-IDD program.
