Walter Sellers to visit Midwinter
Kiwanis International President Walter Sellers will make his Official Visit to Cal-Nev-Ha District on Saturday, March 7, at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose. Mr. Sellers will be the keynote speaker at the Mid-Winter North Interclub luncheon.
Cal-Nev-Ha will hold the largest benefit ever to be held in our district to honor President Sellers and his First Lady, Irene. The black tie affair is expected to be attended by over four hundred Cal-Nev-Ha Kiwanians. For you sporting types, a Las Vegas Casino will be offered. For the more conservative, a wonderful meal and dancing can be expected, as well.
The proceeds from the benefit will be shared in the First Couple's name with the District Foundation's Pediatric Trauma Program and the International IDD project. Governor Reid Allen is hopeful of raising $50,000 or more in the name of these two fine people. Governor Allen is quoted as saying "I hope our members who Serve From The Heart, will also Give From The Heart"
DID YOU KNOW? KIWANIS' MOTTO
"WE BUILD' WAS PROPOSED BY ROE FULKERSON, 1ST EDITOR OF KIWANIS IN 1920. HE LATER SAID "GOD INSPIRED ME TO WRITE THOSE TWO WORDS".
Happenings from Around the Division
This time of year seems to be a time for Kiwanians to recuperate from the holidays and to relax a little. We do have several activities going on and Spring is just around the corner ---I promise! El Nino is going to be just a bad memory soon. (I hope)
Sheila Hayden recounted an Interesting story to this reporter that shows what can happen when information gets to the right person.
It seems school teacher Joyce Victor, from Bessie Owens School, was in the Dentist and happened to see the "IDD Story in a magazine. She took the story of children bereft of Iodine to her Kindergarten class and they began a class project to fill IDD Cans and the first round of collections netted $80.00! Other classrooms have become involved and even the GATE program is using the Kiwanis project as a math problem - i.e. How many kids could you save at I tsp. per child if you raised $50 00? This is the kind of enthusiastic involvement that will put the IDD program "over the top"
Remember the IDD Walkathon May 2nd. For those who can't walk - Rock! More to come on that.
Bakersfield Club would like to invite all Kiwanians to their Prayer luncheon to be held at the regular May 11, meeting. Good thing to put on your future calendars
Tehachapi is looking forward to the upcoming Health Fair in April and all you links maniacs remember the golf tourney is set for May Also, Tehachapi will host the popular Prayer Breakfast in May.
East Bakersfield Club is taking this quiet time to plan all their Spring activities. They plan an education meeting soon, along with training for new members East Club also is ongoing with their 26 year old "LINKS" project If you don't know about it I think you should hear.
They, along with the Kern County Juvenile Probation Department, choose worthy recipients for this award. Youngsters who are involved with the Juvenile Justice system and who show a desire to turn their lives around by Citizenship achievements are award the Links award. They are given a plaque with a chain link engraved thereon and the recipients names are engraved on a perpetual trophy which resides in a case at the Juvenile Probation Department! Great job. It just goes to show not all is lost, even thought a youngster may make a mistake, they can be redeemed. . .only if someone cares!
Lovely Sunny Scofield and President Elect Ruth McClain from Golden K are headed for Washington D C.!
These two energetic young ladies are going to represent Bakersfield at the "Silver Haired Congress". We know you will enliven arid beautify Capitol Hill Watch out for these two at San Jose as well, this reporter has an inside story they are going to the "Black Tie"' affair upcoming at the Midwinter Conference.
Kern Club wants all to be on the look out for the Junior Miss pageant coming up in April. This will be the fifteenth year the Club has been involved More information will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead. Kern will be sending five to the Midwinter.
All Kiwanians in Division 33 applaud and congratulate Brigitte Bonnet, President of Oildale Club on the recent birth of her second daughter Lora Michelle was born last month weighing in at 81b 7 oz. CHOICES
All you have to do
to change your lifeis to change your mind
It realty is that simple,
But it isn’t always easy.
A11 you have to do to stop feeling bad
is to start feeling good. . . but
Feeling good is not a one-time event.
It is a decision we make minute-by-minute
Day by day. . .
It is a creation
The way to change the world
Is to change your attitude toward it
Not once, but all the time..
