- The South Bakersfield Club hosted the first DCM with a Halloween theme at Lt. Gov. Marvin Fuller's new office. Over 144 were in attendance including Bakersfield Christian High Key Club and East Bakersfield High Kiwin's. Div. 33 Clubs held their Council Meeting while the kids had a ball. (Left picture)

- The Southwest Bakersfield Club was officially organized after two pre-organization meetings held at the Southwest Lanes. This is the ninth club in Bakersfield with 30 paid names on the official Kiwanis Petition. - The Taft Club hosted the second DCM with a Thanksgiving theme at Victoria Garden in Taft. The Div. 33 Clubs were split up as Indians and Pilgrims while the Lt. Governors home club (Oildale) was the Turkey. The "Turkey" (Don Zeak - Oildale) with Div. 33 First Lady Darlene Fuller and Oildale First Lady Lynn Deats at his side.

- The Southwest Bakersfield Club's Charter Night Dinner was held at the Traven By The Green. Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor Bob Maurer presented the Charter to Alan Beck, as the Charter President. (See News Page)

- The East Bakersfield and Golden K Clubs hosted the third DCM with a Christmas theme at Lt. Gov. Marvin Fuller's new office. Santa Clause (Bob Shore - East) took down on a scroll what each child wanted for Christmas.

- The Taft Kiwanis Club celebrated its 74th Annual Charter Night and Presidents Night. Current President Kathy Orrin introduced Master of Ceremonies Lt. Governor Marvin Fuller (PP 1984) who reviewed each of 77 past president's occupation, highlight of their year and the meeting location. In 1938 and 1970, two preisdents held office. Thirty-five past presidents are deceased. Vic Lesovsky (PP 1959) was the oldest in attendance along with 7 other past presidents. Congratulation to Fred Cossum (arrangments), Linda Cossum & Katherine Burgner (decorations) Adrian Agundez (video history) and Pat & Oz Kats (dinner).

- Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 4600 Stockdale Hwy. for Ruth McClain, 77, who passed away January 15, 1999. Ruth was a Charter Member of the Kiwanis Club of Golden K Rosewood-Kern City. She was serving as their 1998-99 Club President. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the Kiwanis International Foundation - IDD.

- East Bakersfield High Kiwin's attended the 23rd Annual Cal-Nev-Ha District Kiwin's Convention "Journey into Service for Tomorrow", San Jose Double Tree Hotel, San Jose, CA. Seventeen Kiwin's members (11 girls & 6 boys) enjoyed an outstanding convention, and they were chaperoned by Mrs Michelle Sanders (Faculaty Advisor), PSDLG John Stephenson (Kiwanis Vice Advisor) & Mrs. Kathy Maloney (Parent). East Bakersfield's 1998-99 Ruby Division Kiwin's Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Pluta was the Convention Chair, and she was elected the 1999-2000 District Kiwin's Governor. The 1999-2000 Ruby Division Kiwin's Lt. Governor is EB's Priscilla Rojas.

- Southwest Bakersfield Kiwanis Club First Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held at Kern River Golf Course with a 8:30 a.m. teeoff Team Scramble followed by a BBQ and Awards. Charter President Alan Beck reported a net profit of $976. Shown at the registration table, were PE Neil Dwyer, Glenn & Brenda Nakanishi, and Nancy Kerns.

- Bakersfield and Rosedale Kiwanis Clubs "Drop Zone Draw" North West Promenade was held from 12-5 p.m. Southwest Bakersfield Kiwanis Charter President Alan Beck was the Drop Master. At the final 4:30 p.m. drop by Bakersfield Kiwanis, Ashleigh Geddes won $1,000 for having the closest tennis ball to a blue dot in the center of the drop area. Bakersfield Pres. Bob Doozan provided the official measuring of the winners. (Left) Rosedale Kiwanis provided delicious tri-tip sandwiches and children's bounce-house. Pictured are PP Dave Axtell and Rosedale Pres. Hugh McGowan cutting the meat.Bakersfield Club sold over $10,000 worth of tickets and Rosedale Club sold over $1,000 to the fund-raising event.

- Kern Kiwanis Club 5th Annual Million Dollar Hole-In-One Shootout, Stroke Cutters. PSDLG John Stephenson and Tammy Lodermeier (South Bakersfield) presented the first place check of $1,000 to Stan Pryor who was 9.35 feet from the pin. Second was John McKiearnan with $500 (17.29 feet) and third was Brandon Long with $250 (29.87 feet). A total of 255 out of 501 golfers qualfied by getting their ball in a 12 foot circle which gave them 3 balls for semi-finals. The 10 closest to the pin had one shot each for the Million Dollars. Seven hole-in-ones were made during the qualifying rounds, and one was made in the semi-finals. The ball sales were $16,111 or $1,043 higher than last year. 1999 MDHIOS Information Flyer

Governor-designate Ray Hacker (Rosedale) announced Club Officer Training (COT) for 1999-2000 club presidents and secretaries to be held Riverlakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway Drive from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. - ABC News 20/20 with Hugh Downs does his last story on Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) on Friday at 10 p.m. PDT. KERO-TV 23 interviewed PSDLG John Stephenson (Kern) about IDD for 5, 6, & 11 p.m. newscasts. John has donated $2,000 for his on Hixson and his late son Randy's Hixson that has saved 40,000 kids from IDD. (Left) KERO-TV also showed pictures of IDD cans and iodized Morton Salt. On September 17, 1999, Nettles Brown, International President-designate sent a letter with a pledge card announcing 20/20 show. (Right)

- The Cal-Nev-Ha District Convention hosted by Division 33 in Bakersfield was a great success. At the Governor's Installation Dinner/Dance held on Saturday night, "Team 2000" were installed in their white tuxedo with purple tie and cummerbund. 1993-94 Governor Frank Taylor installed 1999-2000 Governor Terri and First Gent Chris Neumann. Governor Terri installed Division 33 Lt. Governor Ray and First Lady Shelley Hacker (Rosedale).
