FROM
1999-2000 LT. GOVERNOR
Team 2000 started out
with a bang. On July 31, we had COT “Club Officer Training”. My thoughts were,
there is plenty of time to make plans for the 1999-2000 year. Was I wrong! We
had a great convention right here in Bakersfield in August. Time to start club
visits with Marvin Fuller. Time to check schedules of installations, Finish
club visits, finish recruiting committee chairs, plan, plan and plan. After
numerous club visits, 16 Kiwanis Dinners and installations October 1st
is here. The New Year has started. Where did the time go??? October 1, 1999
Team 2000 goes to work. What a job they are doing. All clubs have vigorous
strategy to cultivate membership growth and club performance. After visiting the club officers it is easy
to see why division 33 is always a success. We have exceptional clubs,
dedicated members, dedicated to Kiwanis and dedicated to making a difference to
our communities. My hat goes off to the East Bakersfield Kiwanis club members
and especially to John Wilson. They were chosen to host and preside over the
first DCM on October 21, 1999. It was a grand success. Thank you to all the
clubs that were in attendance. To keep East Bakersfield club busy this year, it
was their year to host and provide the speaker for the Teen City Government
day. They invited Father Craig Harrison. Father Harrison was appropriate for he
is a Bakersfield native, graduated from BHS, was Key Club president and student
mayor for teen City Government day in 1977. As always the Oildale Club and
especially Bill Bush did a fine job coordinating the event. We had over 200 in
attendance, with a vast number of Division 33’s finest in attendance. The time
has come to for our first division report. I was pleased to have ten club
division report on time. I am sure that next month I will have all thirteen ON
TIME!! In our first month Team 2000 added four new members. On the faint side
we had six stray. I personally know that with the pride of Division 33 we will
make our goal of 10% net growth in membership this year. “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS
UP TO ME”. JUST ASK. For the month of October we had 1,268 man-hours of
service, and spent $8,587.00 in our community.
“GO TEAM 2000”

YOUR HELP REQUIRED
Each month we
will try to include news from the Kiwanis Clubs of Division 33. The Division Secretary, Carl Bryan, will be
coordinating this effort. Input from each Club must be
received by the Thursday before the next Division Council Meeting in order to
be included in the new month’s Division Bulletin. Without such input, we
will have to “guess” at something to say (from Club newsletters, Monthly
Reports, etc.). Please use your space
to brag about your accomplishments, advertise future events, or to solicit
cooperation from other Clubs.
Information may be submitted to the District Secretary by fax
(872-3801), e-mail (cbryan3524@aol.com), or by snail mail (3524 Purdue Dr.,

Sherlo Shively, Division 33 Foundation Ambassador, is urging all Club Presidents to continue an outstanding Division 33 Tradition – 100% support of the International Foundation Annual “Birthday Celebration” Club Gift and District Foundation Founders Day. Division 33 Clubs have been 100% involved in these projects for 12 consecutive years.
The International Foundation Birthday Celebration requests a minimum contribution of $3 per member ($150 maximum) based on 10/1/99 membership. The Cal-Nev-Ha Founders Day goal is the same $3 per member ($150 maximum). All checks from the Club for these projects should be forwarded through the Ambassador. We are hoping to have all Clubs’ donations sent in by Thanksgiving.
In addition, we hope that all Clubs will participate in the Distinguished Service Award to be given to one of your members at the Governor’s Official Visit in February. This project $150 donation goes to the Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation.
Clubs may also choose to support the Hope of America project by honoring young people for their excellence in scholarship and citizenship.
Questions and donations should be directed to Sherlo at 2400 Rio Vista Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93306.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
