The Kiwanis Club of Golden K Rosewood-Kern City, Bakersfield was chartered on July 27, 1994. Currently, the club has one Charter members: PP George Thomson. Members of Golden K and Div. 33 clubs were sadden by the death of charter member 1984-85 Lt. Gov. Hal Harney (East Bakersfield) on March 17, 2002. PLG Hal was the Chairman of the New Club Building Committee that help organize the Golden K Club, and he was active in their fund raisers. Charter member Dr. Virginia Yasaitis passed away on January 9, 2004. She was editor of our newsletter in 1995-96, and a very able President in 1996-97. She represented Golden K on the Div. 33 committee to obtain a Kiwanis 3-bed Bloodmobile for our community. Charter President Rev. Tom Toler passed away on June 28, 2004, and his wife of 67 years Erma Toler passed away just 6 weeks later on August 13, 2004. Tom was the current Secretary of the club, and he received the club's DSA from Gov. Wixon on April 15, 2004. (Middle) Charter member & Westchester Past President Harold Matlock passed away on December 26, 2004. Treasurer Raymond Shick passed away on April 25, 2007 after setting up the meeting room and while he was on his way to pickup the wireless mike in the Rosewood office. (Middle-Right) Charter member Marilyn Jones passed away on September 5, 2007. 2007-08 Club President Joann George passed away on June 7, 2008 after a 4 month illness, and she was awarded the club's DSA on May 8, 2008 by Gov. Knight while still in the hospital. (Right)
As of September 30, 2010, we have 12 active members, and we have the following Honorary Members: PLG Wendall Kinney (Kern), Widow Dorothy Harney, Widow Fern Matlock and Doreen Thomson (Wife of CM PP George Thomson).
Weekly coffee meetings are held on Wednesday from 10:15-11:30 AM at the Rosewood Activity Room, 1301 New Stine Rd., which is across from West High School.
On September 22, 2010, CM PP George Thomson was installed as the 2010-11 Club President, and he was pinned by First Lady Doreen. (Left)

In the past to provide funds for Community Service Account, Golden K Kiwanis Club has used the following fund-raisers: Sales of Holiday Box See's Candy, Dewar's Candy and Almonds Nuts.
Some Community Service Projects include: Salvation Army Family Assistance Program, Boys & Girls Clubs, Blind & Visually Impaired Center, Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House, Youth for Christ, First Book Bakersfield, Bessie Owens Kindergarten Books, KIF Skip-A-Meal & Haiti Earthquake, CNHF - FL Dee's Champions & Doctors Project, Kern Veteran's Memorial Foundation, WSP1/IDD & WSP2/MNT, Bakersfield Homeless Center (Kids of 0-5 years of age), Via Arte Italian Street Painting Festival at the Marketplace, and Service Leadership Program Scholarship Fund (KIWIN'S).
In the Worldwide Service Project (9/30/10), we have donated $8,775.05 to help 175,500 kids not have Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD). The Golden K Club is 5th in totals and 2nd place in Div. 33 with $878 per member. We have 8 Hixsons in the following order: PP Sunny Scofield, PP Harold Matlock*, PLG Hal Harney*, PS Stan Peterson*, Marilyn Jones*, Valeria Angelbeck*, CP Tom Toler* and PP George Thomson. In the Div. 33 Bloodmobile Project (5/13/04), Div. 33 has raised $101,515.30 (or 100.11%) of the $101,400 cost to purchase a 3-bed unit for Houchin Blood Service. We have donated $8,129.00 (or 8.01%) and rank 6th place in donor groups and 4th place in clubs. Our Thousand Dollar Club members and order are as follows: PDLG Sunny Scofield & Dave Lane (Sunny's Son) (2), Dorothy Harney in memory of PLG Hal Harney (13) and PDLG Sunny Scofield in lieu of Div. 33 gifts (24) plus she was Co-Chair with Bill Altmiller (Oildale).
