Description

The Kiwanis Club of Shafter was chartered on October 10, 1938. Currently, the club has no Charter Members.

Weekly luncheon meetings are held on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Veteran's Memorial Hall, 309 California Ave.

On May 19, 2011, Robert Gonzalez was presented the 2010-11 Distinguished Service Award by CNH Dist. Gov. Tom Millham & Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Kathy Orrin. (Right)

In order to provide funds for our Community Service Projects, the Shafter Kiwanis Club uses the following fund-raisers: Pancake Breakfast, See's Candy Sales, Reverse Drawing, Cinco de Mayo and Fireworks.

Some of the Community Service Projects include: $9,000 in scholarships to Shafter High seniors; American Cancer Society; Terrific Kids Programs; Harvest Parade and Carnival; Christmas Food Baskets for needy families; Kiwanis sponsored SHS Basketball Tournament; Sponsor teams in the Shafter Parks and Rec. Leagues, Babe Ruth Baseball and Gladiator Football; Community Easter Sunrise Service; Kiwanis sponsored Achievement Banquet for Richland Jr. High; Books for classrooms; Spring Into Reading Program; New Teacher Luncheon; Shafter Freestyle Wrestling and PAL programs; and the Distinguished Young Women Program.

The Shafter High Key Club and Richland Builders Club are part of the Service Leadership Program (SLP).

As of 9/30/10 in the WSP/IDD program, the Shafter Club has given $14,003.80 or helped 280,076 kids from IDD. We rank 42nd in the Cal-Nev-Had District and 4th in Div. 33. The Shafter Club has 3 Hixsons, 3 Tablets of Honor and 2 Dunlaps.

In the Div. 33 Bloodmobile Project (5/13/04), Div. 33 has raised $101,515.30 (or 100.11%) of the $101,400 cost to purchase a 3-bed unit for Houchin Blood Service. We have donated $129.00 (or 0.13%) and rank 16th place.
