Description

The Kiwanis Club of Shafter was chartered on October 10, 1938. Currently, the club has no Charter Members.

Weekly luncheon meetings are held on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 PM at the Veteran's Memorial Hall, 209 California Ave.

On April 15, 2010, President Arlie Smith was presented the 2009-10 Distinguished Service Award by CNH Dist. Gov. Roy Talley & Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Steve Kinsey.

In the past to provide funds for Community Service Account, Shafter Kiwanis Club has used the following fund-raisers: Air Show at Minter Field, Spiritual Walk-a-thon, See's Candy, Pancake Breakfast, and Fireworks.

Some Community Service Projects include: $4000 in scholarships given to High School seniors, supporting Pyles Boys Camp, the American Red Cross, Cancer Society, Terrific Kids Programs, Kiwanians Reading to Kids, Halloween Parade and Poster Contest, Christmas Food Baskets For Needy Families, Kiwanis S.H.S. Basketball Tournament, Richland School Tree Project, Community Easter Sunrise Service, Shafter Kiwanis Achievement Banquet, Books for Preschool Reading Packets, Community / New Teachers Luncheon, Boys State, Junior Miss Program, and D.A.R.E Program.

The Shafter High Key Club and Richland Builders Club are part of the Service Leadership Program (SLP).

2004-05 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Joe Whitby presented the Distinguished Club Award to Shafter Club as one of eight clubs this year. Also, he presented Distinguished pins to: President Kevin Monsma and Secretary Christina Schwerdetfager.

As of 5/31/10 in the WSP/IDD program, the Shafter Club has given $14,003.80 or helped 280,076 kids from IDD. We rank 42nd in the Cal-Nev-Had District and 4th in Div. 33. The Shafter Club has 3 Hixsons, 3 Tablets of Honor and 2 Dunlaps.

In the Div. 33 Bloodmobile Project (5/13/04), Div. 33 has raised $101,515.30 (or 100.11%) of the $101,400 cost to purchase a 3-bed unit for Houchin Blood Service. We have donated $129.00 (or 0.13%) and rank 16th place.
