Description

The Kiwanis Club of Westchester was chartered on June 12, 1961. Currently, the club has one Charter Members: PP Marvin Belcher. Members of Westchester Club were sadden by the deaths of charter members 1985-86 Lt. Gov. Jim Turner & 1971-72 Pres. Oliver Burr and Chuck Thompson.

Weekly breakfast meetings are held on Friday from 6:30-7:45 AM at Hilton Garden Inn, 3625 Marriott Dr.

In the past to provide funds for Community Service Account, Westchester Kiwanis Club has used the following fund-raiser: Reverse Drawing.

Some Community Service Projects include: 43rd year of Jack Frost Football, Math Field Day, Jamison Children Center Park, Regular blood and platelet donations, World War II Veterans Memorial, Two Junior High Awards (dozen schools), Boys and Girls Club, Westchester Clean-Up, 25th year Al Dennis Scholarship at BHS, Key Club Scholarship, Christmas Shopping Spree (50 disadvantage youth), American Red Cross, Cancer Society, Crop Walk, American Lung Association, Special Olympics, Bakersfield Retarded Citizens and Save Old Spectacles.

The Fruitvale Junior High Builders Club is part of the Service Leadership Programs.

2004-05 Div. 33 Lt. Gov. Joe Whitby presented the Distinguished Club Award to Westchester Club as one of eight clubs this year. Also, he presented Distinguished pins to: President PLG John Rodgers and Secretary PLG Sherlo Shively.

As of 5/31/08 in the WSP/IDD program, the Westchester Club has given $25,202.39 or helped 504,048 kids from IDD. They rank 15th Cal-Nev-Ha District and 2nd in Div. 33. The Westchester Club has 21 Hixsons, 1 Diamond Hixson and 3 Tablet of Honors names on their "Honor Club" banner. (Right)

In the Div. 33 Bloodmobile Project (5/13/04), Div. 33 has raised $101,515.30 (or 100.11%) of the $101,400 cost to purchase a 3-bed unit for Houchin Blood Service. We have donated $8,244.00 (or 8.13%) and rank 5th place. Our Thousand Dollar Club members and order are as follows: Margaret Dennis in memory of PS Al Dennis (3), Tom Stewart DDS (6), PLG Sherlo Shively in memory of PLG Jim "Pop" Turner (7), George Giboney (21) and Westchester Kiwanis Club (23).
